Strasburg Rail Road
Adults and children alike will love taking a 45-minute ride on the Strasburg Rail Road’s steam locomotive. The oldest operating railroad in the United States, this historic attraction dates back to 1832.
During your trip, you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful views of the Amish countryside while listening to commentary about the area’s history, interesting facts, and information about the railroad. After your ride, make sure to check out the rail road’s gift shop and stay for a delicious meal at their restaurant, Cafe 1832.
AvalancheXpress
When the snow starts to fall, there’s no better place to be than AvalanceXpress. Gather up the kids and head out for a fun day of snow tubing and ice skating. While you’re there, you’ll also want to visit the Avenue Ale House & Pizza Loft. It offers four dining areas, a jaw-dropping view, and multiple bars with a great happy hour.
Want to turn your outing into a mini stay-cation? You’re in luck! There’s also an excellent hotel and spa on-site.
North Museum of Nature and Science
When the kids start to get cabin fever, gather them up and head out to the North Museum of Nature and Science. They’ll have a blast learning about nature, space, and animals. The museum features a planetarium, fun exhibits, interesting collections, and a live animal room where you can get up-close and personal with toads, reptiles, bush-tailed rats, and more.

Not a fan of beer? No worries! There are several wineries and distilleries along the trail as well.
Before you hit the breweries, make sure you stop by the Visitor’s Center at 501 Greenfield Road in Lancaster. Ask for a passport that you can have stamped at each stop. When you get at least four stamps you can return it to the visitor’s center and exchange it for a free t-shirt.
